Overview
A leading US biotechnology company required an update to the Investigator’s Brochure for its Phase 1 atopic dermatitis therapy, incorporating new chronic toxicology findings, aligning with the DSUR, and integrating input from multiple functional teams.
By this stage, Morula Health had supported the company across four previous regulatory and clinical writing projects. The client initially engaged us when their pipeline was largely comprised of preclinical assets and internal clinical writing expertise was limited. As their development programs progressed and clinical activities expanded, we continued to provide the specialist clinical and regulatory writing expertise required to support increasingly complex documents and development milestones. Over time, the relationship evolved into a trusted partnership, with Morula Health providing not only writing support, but also project leadership and coordination across multidisciplinary review teams
Challenge
In this case, the client engaged Morula Health well in advance of the planned IB update, recognising that the project would require dedicated expertise and resources to meet upcoming development timelines. While planning could begin early, the final tables, listings, and figures (TLFs) were not yet available, creating the potential for delays if workstreams were not carefully managed.
The project also involved coordinating multiple stakeholder groups across clinical and nonclinical functions, managing reviews within separate SharePoint environments, ensuring alignment with existing documentation and safety reports, and clarifying quality control expectations. This meant the real challenge was not simply updating the Investigator’s Brochure, but creating an efficient review process that kept stakeholders aligned, maintained momentum, and ensured decisions could be made quickly as new data became available
Our Solution:
Dedicated Scientific Leadership
Morula Health approached the project with a dedicated writing and quality control team, selecting a lead medical writer with experience across both clinical and nonclinical development. This allowed a single individual to understand the complete scientific story and act as the central point of coordination throughout the project.
Phased Document Development
Rather than waiting for all datasets to become available, the team adopted a phased approach. Nonclinical updates were drafted and reviewed first while final clinical outputs were still being prepared. This enabled reviewers to begin providing feedback earlier and prevented unnecessary delays later in the timeline.
Early Stakeholder Alignment
To create alignment from the outset, the lead writer conducted discussions with key stakeholders before the formal kick-off meeting. These conversations clarified expectations, answered outstanding questions, and ensured decision-makers were aligned before drafting began. As a result, the project started with a clear direction and minimized the risk of late-stage changes.
Proactive Project Coordination
Throughout development, the writer took ownership of the review process, proactively tracking comments, following up on actions, managing timelines, and communicating directly with subject matter experts when clarification was needed. By driving the process rather than simply responding to reviews, the team maintained momentum and reduced the burden on client stakeholders.
Structured Quality Control and Review Management
Quality control was managed through a structured and collaborative approach. Morula Health provided a detailed IB QC checklist at the outset, helping to align expectations and define the scope of review early in the project. Throughout development, our writers maintained clear communication, actively tracked review comments, and preserved a comprehensive audit trail of document versions and responses. This ensured consistency across successive drafts, improved transparency for reviewers, and supported a streamlined and efficient approval process.
Highlights
The project was delivered on time, on budget, and to a high standard. However, one of the most significant successes was the efficiency of the review process itself. Through proactive stakeholder management and continuous alignment, the project progressed so smoothly that an additional review meeting was ultimately unnecessary, with outstanding questions resolved directly between Morula Health and key client stakeholders.
The project demonstrated that successful Investigator’s Brochure development relies on more than scientific expertise alone. By combining experienced medical writers with structured project management, Morula Health kept reviews focused, maintained accountability across stakeholders, and ensured efficient decision-making throughout the development process. This approach helped streamline review cycles, reduce potential delays, and keep the project on track from initiation through to delivery.
Outcome
By combining scientific expertise with strong project management principles, Morula Health transformed a straightforward IB update into a strategic regulatory asset. The completed Investigator’s Brochure successfully incorporated the latest safety information and provided the client with an updated, high-quality document to support ongoing development activities.
Most importantly, the project strengthened an ongoing client relationship built across multiple investigator brochures, clinical study reports, protocols, and regulatory writing initiatives, creating a foundation for continued collaboration across the client’s growing respiratory and immunology portfolio.
“Thank you so much for your work on this project. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with you, again.”
How Morula Health Supports Investigator’s Brochure Development
Developing or updating an Investigator’s Brochure requires more than scientific writing expertise. It requires coordination between stakeholders, management of complex review cycles, alignment across clinical and nonclinical teams, and robust quality control processes.
At Morula Health, our writers do more than develop content. They lead the review process, manage stakeholder engagement, maintain project momentum, and create the structure needed for efficient document development. This approach helps sponsors reduce review inefficiencies, improve alignment, and deliver high-quality documents with confidence.
A well-developed Investigator’s Brochure serves as a key communication tool throughout clinical development, providing a clear and credible summary of a program’s data while supporting informed decision-making for investigators, internal teams, and other stakeholders.
